Black Lives Whitened Stories
This Historic Resource Study, Black Lives and Whitened Stories: From the Lowcountry to the Mountains, by David and Anne Whisnant, explores the history of African Americans and the larger racial dynamics at Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site over a period of more than a century, beginning in the 1830s. Check out the complete study of Black Lives Whitened Stories to learn more. The park has created lesson plans and on site information exhibit to highlight these untold stories.
General Management Plan 2003
The General Management Plan and Final Environmental Impact Statement (GMP/FEIS) for Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site presents and analyzes four alternative management concepts (three action and one no action alternatives) and their potential environmental impacts. Each alternative proposes a different management philosophy to guide resource protection and visitor use decisions. Contact the park for a copy of the plan.
Alternative Transportation Study 2013
The popularity of Carl Sandburg Home NHS has resulted in demand for parking exceeding the available supply of parking during the summer and in October. This causes frustration for visitors, is detrimental to the overall visitor experience, and dissuades future visits. The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility of strategies to address parking congestion issues and to provide enhanced multimodal access to the park. Contact the park for a copy of the study.
Foundation Document 2014
A Foundation Document includes the park’s purpose, significance, fundamental and other important resources and values, interpretive themes, special mandates and administrative commitments, and context in the larger landscape. It is part of a park's planning portfolio, which may include visitor use, resource protection, and similar plans, as well as a park's GMP.
