The National Park Service has been dedicated to the preservation and protection of our nation’s outstanding natural, cultural, historical and recreational areas since its establishment in 1916. Today, over 15,000 permanent employees and 5,000 thousand temporary and seasonal employees work in over 390 national park sites protecting these resources.

All National Park Service jobs, both permanent and temporary, are announced on the USA JOBS website.

Temporary & Seasonal Employment

Each year the National Park Service hires thousands of temporary (seasonal) employees. Seasonal positions last up to 1040 hours or roughly half a year. While most seasonal positions are for summer work, a limited number of winter positions are also available.

Seasonal positions at Channel Islands National Park often include interpretive rangers, education technicians, law enforcement rangers, biological technicians, and maintenance workers.

Summer seasonal positions are usually announced in October/November of the preceding year; winter seasonal positions are usually announced in May/June. Strict application deadlines apply to these positions so make sure to get your application in on time.

Internships

The National Park Service offers internship positions in many park areas. Some positions include compensation in the form of a stipend, moving expenses or mileage reimbursement, and a monetary award which can be used for paying off old school loans or paying for additional classes.
