Hikers on the Appalachian Trail along the ridge of the Kittatinny Mountains on the park's New Jersey side and the Cliff Trail on the Pennsylvania side can discover some of the best views in the park. In the late summer and early fall with the leaves turning colors and large birds of prey migrating south through the valley, a marvelous view-scape of nature awaits those who climb these rocky trails.
Those visitors not so inclined to climb can drive to see their vistas, but usually must wait until the winter and spring to observe the beaty of nature’s landscapes. In these months, the leaves are off the trees and there are more frequent views of the river from the park's main tour roads, Route 209 and River Road in Pennsylvania and Old Mine Road in New Jersey. The air during these periods is typically crystal clear.
