Flamingo offers several exciting ranger-guided programs. Please check out the park calendar and see what is scheduled, including special events!

Program Descriptions

Below are summaries of all ranger-led programs available in Flamingo in the dry season (November - April). All of our programs are free (with your park entrance fee) unless otherwise noted. Please see the park's calendar to verify program dates and times. All programs are subject to rescheduling or cancellation in the case of inclement environmental conditions or other unforseen circumstances.

Birding Bonanza: Ranger-Guided Bird Walk

Available November 22 to April 11

Grab your binoculars and discover the incredible birds of Flamingo. From wading shorebirds to colorful songbirds, learn to identify and appreciate the park’s feathered residents. Beginner birders welcome! Cameras, binoculars, and insect protection are encouraged. 

Paddling in Paradise

8:30 am Friday to Wednesday; about 3 hours
Florida Bay kayaking: Friday to Monday; strenuous; ages 16+
Nine Mile Pond canoeing: Tuesday and Wednesday; moderately strenuous; ages 12+
Reservations required

Explore Florida Bay or Nine-Mile Pond by kayak or canoe! This strenuous trip will glide through the waters of Flamingo and experience the beauty of this iconic ecosystem. All paddling equipment is provided. Minors must have an adult in their boat with them.

Due to the strenuous nature of these trips, prior paddling experience is required. Beginning paddlers are encouraged to check out the Canoeing for Beginners clinic offered by the Everglades Institute, our non-profit park partner.

Guided Boat Tours

Daily; 90 minutes; trips depart every hour from 9 am to 4 pm; fees apply
Backcountry tours available year-round; Florida Bay tours available November 1 to April 30.
Backcountry tours depart on odd hours (9, 11, 1, 3) and Bay tours depart on even hours (10, 12, 2, 4)

Join a naturalist as you explore the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Wilderness. Trips depart hourly and visit either Whitewater Bay via Buttonwood Canal or Florida Bay. Come along on a subtropical adventure! Visit the Marina Activities Booth, reserve online, or call 855-708-2207 to purchase your tickets.

Curious About Critters?

Available November 22 to April 11

Learn about the fantastic fauna of Flamingo during this informal program. Rangers will discuss manatees, crocodiles, osprey, and any other animals that make an appearance. They may even have a mobile museum! 

Ranger's Choice!

Available November 22 to April 11

Every day brings a new adventure with Ranger’s Choice. Join us for an engaging program where our rangers share their favorite stories, wildlife, or hidden gems of the Everglades. Ask a park ranger about today’s topics. You can also check our program calendar at nps.gov/ever or in the NPS app.

Evening Programs

Available November 22 to April 11

Experience the Everglades after dark with stories, wildlife, and natural history to discover a new side of Flamingo. Insect protection is strongly encouraged. Ask a park ranger for more details or check our calendar online at nps.gov/ever or in the NPS app.
