9:00-4:30 World War II: Voices of Service Exhibition
World War II: Voices of Service explores major events of the war through the photographs, letters, and oral histories of everyday Americans. From the attack on Pearl Harbor through the GI Bill, this traveling exhibition provides an overview of important events on the battlefield and the home front.
This exhibition was funded through a grant from the Veterans Legacy Grant Program. Each panel highlights the experiences of men and women interred in National Cemeteries with a special Soldier Spotlight. The exhibition commemorates WWII Veterans and Service members through the discovery and sharing of their stories, reminding viewers that it was individual Americans from all walks of life whose service and sacrifice led to Allied victory. We invite you to use this exhibition as an example to learn more about the service of Veterans in your community.

Join us for an enlightening lecture presented by Britta K. Granrud, Director of Collections & Curator at the Military Women's Memorial. Discover the vital contributions of over 3 million American women who have served in defense of our nation from its inception to the present day. This presentation will explore the historical roles women played—from the early days of colonial America to receiving full military status in 1948. With a focus on the contributions of women during the War of 1812 to World War II, learn how their roles have evolved and expanded, culminating in their current representation of approximately 17.5% of the armed forces.

Getting to Fort Washington Park
From Waldorf, MD: MD228 to Indian Head Highway/MD210 North. Turn left onto Old Fort Road. Continue to end of road, at the stop sign turn left onto Fort Washington Road, continue to park entrance.

Mobility/Physical
This event will take place in the old Fort. It is a mostly grassy surface with a level dirt path in the center. The Fort is about a quarter mile from the parking lot and the path is paved and accessible for wheelchairs and other mobility aids. Handicapped accessible restrooms are located in the Visitor Center, which sits between the Fort and the parking lot.
Deaf/Hard of Hearing
American Sign Language interpreters will be present and available upon request to assist whoever needs them.
Blind/Vision Loss
Braille copies of the park brochure are available upon request in the Visitor Center. The event will consist of many stations where you can talk to a historic reenactor. It will also have musket and cannon demonstrations and a musical performance to listen to.
Cognitive/Learning Disabilities
The musket and cannon firing programs do contain very loud noises and smoke. Staff will provide warnings when the loud noises are coming, but they can still be quite startling.
