Firearms

As of February 22, 2010, federal law makes possession of firearms in national parks subject to local and state firearms laws.

Visitors are responsible for knowing, understanding, and complying with all applicable state, local, and federal firearms laws before entering the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site. As a starting point, please visit the District of Columbia’s website and the District of Columbia Attorney General's website. See Division I, Title 7, Subtitle J, Chapter 25, and Division IV, Title 22, Subtitle VI, Chapter 45.

Federal law continues to prohibit firearms in federal facilities. At the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, these facilities include the historic house, visitor center, and park offices. Signs at the public entrances inform visitors that firearms are prohibited inside these facilities.
