Desert False Indigo (Amorpha fruticosa)

The desert false indigo plant, scientifically known as Amorpha fruticosa, is a perennial shrub that can grow six to twelve feet high. This native bush flowers in the spring and summer, with purplish blue blossoms, hence the name “false indigo”. In the fall, the plant begins to produce brown pods of fruit, which offer food for many birds and animals.
