Start at the Visitor Center

Check George Rogers Clark National Historical Park visitor center and parking area hours for availability. Vincennes, Indiana is in the Eastern Time zone.

Outdoor areas of the park including grassy areas, walking paths and picnic tables are open Sunrise to Sunset daily. After hours parking is available along Second Street.

The George Rogers Clark Memorial

The Clark Memorial building is open on request when the Visitor Center is open. The memorial building closes 15 minutes before the Visitor Center at 4:45 p.m.

To go inside the memorial building, please check with rangers at the Visitor Center first to ensure a ranger is available, if one is not already in the building rangers are happy to open the building.

School and Group Reservations

Schools and groups are welcome at George Rogers Clark National Historical Park. This park is free for all visitors.

All group visits must be arranged through the Vincennes/Knox County Visitors and Tourism Bureau (VTB). 1-800-886-6443

School groups wishing to take full advantage of their visit should plan for a minimum tour time of one hour. Please keep in mind restrooms in the visitor center are small and accomodating large groups may take 15-20 minutes in addition to regular tour times. Remember to include extra time for shopping at the gift store, perusing the museum, walking the grounds, lunch, and restrooms as none of these are scheduled in a one hour visit.

Other sites within Vincennes are close by, but we recommend budgeting time for transportation between sites including loading and unloading of busses.

School and Group visit activities

Park Film - Long Knives

A thirty (30) minute film in the Visitor Center, Long Knives tells the story of George Rogers Clark's journey to Kaskaskia, Cahokia and Vincennes and the capture of Fort Sackville in Vincennes.

Clark Memorial

Groups can listen to a recorded six (6) minute narrative on headphones within the Memorial or walk through and read signs. A Park Ranger will provide a brief introduction on the memorial steps. The entire memorial experience lasts for about fifteen (15) minutes.

Historic Weapons Demonstration (Schools only)

A program and historic weapon demonstration presented by a ranger or park volunteer in 18th century period dress. This program typically runs 15 to 20 minutes and can be quite loud for very young children and those with sound-based sensory issues or anxiety. We encourage all visitors to individually consider if this program is appropriate for themselves and their children.

The Vincennes/Knox County Visitors and Tourism Bureau coordinates group visits and reservation at many of Vincennes' historic sites and museums in Vincennes and can provide information about restauraunts, picnic areas, and lodging.
