Glen Echo Park's sister site, located adjacent to the park, is the Clara Barton National Historic Site. Clara Barton dedicated her life and energies to help others in times of need - both home and abroad, in peacetime as well as during military emergencies. Glen Echo was her home the last 15 years of her life and the structure illustrates her dedication and concern for those less fortunate than herself. The house is shown by guided tours only. Tours are free and offered only on Saturdays at 11, Noon, 2, and 3 and Sundays at 1, 2, 3, and 4. 
Glen Echo Park is part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. A variety of sites, including the nearby Great Falls Park and Arlington House, The Robert E. Lee Memorial located in Arlington National Cemetery, make up the Parkway and each of those sites offers a unique experience. Click on the links above for more information. 
The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park is another park neighbor. Their Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center is located just 7 miles from Glen Echo Park up MacArthur Blvd that has plenty of recreational and educational opportunities including hiking trails, ranger-led programs, and mule-drawn canal boat rides. Other area parks include Rock Creek Park, National Mall & Memorial Parks, President's Park (White House), National Capital Parks-East, and Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. Manassas National Battlefield, Prince William Forest Park, Catoctin Mountain Park, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, and Antietam National Battlefield are other parks in the region that, while not very close to Glen Echo Park, are still close enough to make for a good day trip. |
