NPS Photo ParkingTwo accessible parking spaces are located in the Visitor Center parking lot. A 0.25 mile paved, mostly level pathway takes you from this location to the historic ranch area. For visitors needing to park closer to the historic ranch, accessible parking is available. Stop at the visitor center to get directions. RestroomsRestrooms with accessible stalls are located in the Visitor Center parking lot and the Garage/Blacksmith Shop. These restrooms do not have automatic opening doors. Visitor CenterRamps provide access to the Visitor Center porch and doorways. The doors are not operable by buttons. Exhibits, a bookstore, and information desk are located inside. NPS Photo WalkwaysThe pathway from the Visitor Center to the historic ranch is paved and wheelchair accessible. It is mostly level, with a slight rise as it approaches the main ranch house. Benches are available along this path. Historic BuildingsMany of the facilities at Grant-Kohrs Ranch are historic and built before current accessibility standards were set. Visitors using wheelchairs or other mobility devices might need assistance entering some of the buildings. Bunkhouse Row, the Ice House/Tack Room, Draft Horse Barn, Granary, Stallion Barn, and Leeds Lion Barn may require assistance to enter. Entrances have high steps or thresholds with no handrails. They are not wheelchair accessible. These buildings also have high thresholds in interior doorways. The Dairy Barn, Buggy Shed, Thoroughbred Barn, and Garage/Blacksmith Shop are accessible to persons using a mobility device. Ramps are available into the Shop and Dairy Barn with ranger assistance. Ranch House ToursRanch House tours are accessible to persons using wheelchairs or mobility devices. The tour remains on the first floor of the house. A wooden boardwalk, accessed from the front fence gate of the Ranch House, provides wheelchair access to the house entrance. Please be aware that the interior of the house includes narrow halls and doorways, high thresholds, and moving over carpet edges. Benches and seating are not available inside the Ranch House. Ranger TalksSeveral ranger talks are accessible to people with physical and mobility disabilities. Please ask for more information about specific programs at the Visitor Center. ExhibitsExhibits in the Visitor Center, Buggy Shed, Garage/Blacksmith Shop, Thoroughbred Barn, and wayside exhibits are accessible with level pathways and ramps. Picnic AreasPicnic tables with wheelchair access are located at the Visitor Center, behind the Chuck Wagon, and inside the Dairy Barn. Tables at these locations do not have backrests. Picnic benches at the Visitor Center can be converted into benches with back rests. Please ask for ranger assistance. |
