Much of the story of Hamilton's life takes place in and around New York City. New York City is where Hamilton settled after emigrating to America, and his contributions helped shape the city into what it is today. Far uptown, on 141st Street in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood within Harlem, sits a regal-looking square house, flanked by stately white porches with balustrades. This house has occupied the neighborhood for over 200 years, since 1802. The house, called Hamilton Grange, was commissioned as a country home by Alexander Hamilton.
