The most architecturally imposing of the three Herbert Maier museums left in Yellowstone, the Norris Museum was conceived as a gateway to the overlooks and trails of the geyser basin. The building's concept, form, and execution of detail make it a masterpiece of Rustic architecture. The Norris Museum's siting skillfully conceals the geyser basin from view until entry in the foyer, which provides access to the flagstone terrace overlooking the thermal springs. "Norris Museum" is spelled out in wrought iron letters suspended from the entrance truss.¹³
