Free---But Tickets Required for Tours of the Truman Home - Free

Everyone touring the Truman home, including children, must have a ticket. Tours of the Truman Home are maximum 8 persons, no exceptions. All tickets are issued same day, first come, first served. Tickets issued only at the visitor center. No tickets are issued at the Truman Home itself, for protection of staff, visitors and resources. We cannot accept reservations at this time.

Welcome to the home of the 33rd President of the United States! Beautiful in its uncluttered commonness, the Truman Home showcases the simple life Harry Truman and his beloved Bess Truman enjoyed in Independence before, during, and after his presidency.

Tours limited in size to no more than eight and are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Tours available Wednesdays through Sundays. (Tour times are dependent on staffing. We recommend that you call ahead ((816)254-9929)) to inquire what tours are available for the day. All tours are first come, first served.)

Truman Home tours are 1/2 hour in length. Please note there is no seating inside the Home.

The Truman Farm in Grandview, Missouri is located at 12301 Blue Ridge Blvd. Grounds are open year-round for self-guided tours. Audio tour available onsite. The Truman Farm Home is presently closed for tours. A significant historic preservation project to restore and stabilize the Farm Home foundation will be starting soon. This will greatly enhance our ability to preserve the home for future generations on your behalf.

It was built by George Porterfield Gates, and was the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gates for years, as well as the home of the family of David W. Wallace for many years. In 1919, Harry S Truman started calling it home after he married the love of his life Bess Wallace Truman.

From 1945-1953, 219 North Delaware Street was the second most famous address in America.

Today, thanks to the generosity of Bess Wallace Truman, 219 North Delaware Street is yours. We only take care of it for you.

      The Estate of Elizabeth Wallace Truman

      In her Last Will and Testament, First Lady Bess Wallace Truman gave the people of the United States a beautiful gift...her family's home and its contents. Technically, she left it to the care of the National Archives, who in turn asked the National Park Service to step in.

      When you visit today, you see the home almost exactly as it was.
