Field Trips at Chalmette Battlefield

A group of school children in blue uniforms speak to history reenactors. Tan triangle tents are set up on grass.
Groups that visit the battlefield explore the Battle of New Orleans and the War of 1812. Ask our rangers about programs and activities that would serve your group best.

Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery is in Chalmette, a part of New Orlean. Here, field trip groups can learn about the War of 1812 and the effects the Battle of New Orleans globally.

Ranger-led programs are currently unavailable other than the daily talks (see below). Groups are still welcome to explore the site on their own.

If your group wants to request a ranger lead program, please email the us or call 504-281-0510 to speak with a ranger.

Otherwise, we encourage all groups to explore the site on their own during regular hours.

Groups may

  • attend the daily ranger talk at 2:45 p.m. when the Creole Queen excursion boat arrives.

  • discover the films and exhibits of the visitor center.

  • view the Mississippi River from the top of the levee.
