There is no food for sale within the monument. Picnic areas are available at all three units.
Some surrounding communities have cafes, though they may not be open every day and hours can change seasonally. Many also have convenience and/or general stores with food items and snacks available. Between cafes and stores, some food is often available seven days a week in most communities, particularly in summer months. However, plan ahead and bring some provisions with you on your trip as services may not be availible.
The Sheep Rock Unit is located between the towns of Dayville (some services) and Kimberly (no services). It is 40 miles west of the town of John Day which is larger and has more services.
The Painted Hills Unit is located 9 miles northwest of of the town of Mitchell (some services). It is 51 miles northeast of the town Prineville which has more services.
The Clarno Unit is located on Highway 218 between the towns of Fossil (which has some services) and Antelope (no services). It is 131 miles northwest of the town of John Day which has more services.
