Visiting the John Muir National Historic Site is a meaningful way to connect with the legacy of one of America’s greatest conservationists. Whether you’re here to explore history, enjoy the natural beauty, or learn something new, we’re excited to welcome you. Here’s everything you need to know for a smooth and enjoyable visit:

Hours of Operation

The site is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We are closed on Sundays and Mondays. The Muir/Strentzel home closes to visitors at 4:30 PM.

Admission

There is no entrance fee, making it accessible for everyone to explore and enjoy.

We have a small parking lot which is free for visitors to use.

  • By Car: The park is easily accessible via Highway 4 or Interstate 680.
  • Public Transport: Located near the Martinez Amtrak Station, with public transit options available.

Tips for Your Visit

  • Wear Comfortable Shoes: Expect a lot of walking, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
  • Bring Water and Snacks: While no food services are available on-site, you can bring your own snacks. Please follow Leave No Trace principles and take your trash with you. Note: Food and drinks are not allowed inside the Muir House.
  • Check the Weather: Dress appropriately for the day’s weather conditions.
