When you walk the trails of Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park, you’ll be walking along paths that have been used by people for centuries. For example, along a portion of the Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail, you can pass by ancient heiau and house platforms that still remain. And along the Mamalahoa Trail, you can walk where donkeys once traveled, loaded with produce on their way to market.
Keep in mind: the weather in this coastal environment can be hot and humid for most of the year with many exposed areas and little shade. If you plan to explore the trails wear sturdy hiking shoes, apply sunscreen, wear sunglasses and a hat. And bring plenty of water, as there is no water in the park!
