Keep in mind: Katahdin Woods and Waters NM is remote and reached only by dirt roads. There are limited facilities within the monument and cell service is spotty and unreliable. Cell ServiceThere is little to no cell service throughout the park. Logging RoadsMonument roads are mostly dirt logging roads. Expect poor road conditions including washed out areas, large potholes, and mud depending on the season. High clearance vehicles with four-wheel drive are highly recommended. WeatherWeather can change quickly and may be rainy, snowy, icy, and very windy. When it is windy, watch out for downed trees. Insects and bugsDuring the summer season black flies and mosquitos are ever present. Ticks are an issue in the area; where light colored pants, tuck your pants into your socks, and do a thorough tick check after spending time in the park. Hunting seasonVisitors should wear high visibility clothing, such as hunter orange vests or hats, during hunting season (late August through December).
