Cora Reynolds Anderson

Born in L’Anse, Michigan, in 1882, Cora Reynolds Anderson was the first woman elected to the Michigan House of Representatives, serving from 1925 to 1926. Reynolds-Anderson is believed to be the only Native American woman elected to the Michigan House. Educated as a teacher at Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas, she taught at schools near her home in the Upper Peninsula for a few years. Her community involvement in education, health, and economy led to her effective involvement in politics; her race saw very high voter turnout in her district.
