Closure Order- Restrictions and Public Use Limits: On October 11, 2024, under the authority provided to the Superintendent in 36 CFR 1.5(a)(2), the southern segment of the "Short Trail" in the Captain Jack's Stronghold at Lava Beds National Monument are closed for public use. Effective immediately, this closure (24-007, see below) is lifted and the southern segment of the "Short Trail" in the Captain Jack's Stronghold at Lava Beds National Monument is now open for public use. Authority: 36 CFR 1.5(a)(2)
Notice: The administrative order applies to all individuals subject to regulatory authority of the National Park Service (NPS) within the boundaries of Lava Beds National Monument, including park visitors, government employees, concession employees park resident and stakeholders. This order is effective immediately and will remain in effect until further notice. The effectiveness of this order will be assessed on an ongoing basis, and the order will be modified or rescinded when conditions warrant.

Closures, restrictions and public use limits:

Closure Order – Restrictions and Public Use Limits: On October 11, 2024, under the authority provided to the Superintendent in 36 CFR 1.5(a)(2), the southern segment of the “Short Trail” in the Captain Jack’s Stronghold at Lava Beds National Monument are closed for public use. The trail closure is in affect starting at both trail junctions that spur off from the “Long Trail.” The closure of the trail is needed for resource management activities and to have unhindered monitoring access of the area to complete animal observation and behavior. This is due to recent Mt. Lion activity within that area of the Captain Jack Stronghold.
