From outstanding bear habitat to exceptional examples of geologic formations, National Natural Landmarks are recognized and conserved for the outstanding biological and geological resources they contain. Sites are designated by the Secretary of the Interior for their condition, illustrative character, rarity, diversity, and value to science and education. Alaska has 16 National Natural Landmarks.
