Plants

Whether they were planted in a garden or shoot out from the cracks in a sidewalk, plants are a resilient bunch! Lowell is home to many types of common plants found in the Northeast. Certain plants, however, have adapted and are very good at surviving in a harsh city environment, and continue to grow and even thrive amidst the sea of brick and asphalt.

While the plants shown here are a mix of native and invasive, you'll find that many of those still here in Lowell are especially good at adapting. There are many other birches that are negatively affected because the environment has changed so much.
