The Constitution and its amendments outline the rules for voting in the United States
When Martin Van Buren was only six years old, America’s leaders gathered in Philadelphia to create a document that would make America one strong, organized nation.
This document is called the United States Constitution.
The United States Constitution, along with its 27 Amendments (changes added), protect the rights of every American citizen.
When Martin Van Buren was President of the United States many men were not allowed to vote for President of the United States because of their color of their skin. The 15th Amendment changed that.
The 19th Amendment was equally important. It gave women living in every state in America the right to vote for the very first time!
Today, there are five Amendments to the United States Constitution protecting the voting rights of every American citizen 18 years old and up.
You are too young to vote for the President of the United States, but you can vote for the President of Lindenwald.
