If you enjoy historic architecture, a good meal or place to relax than the Paradise Inn is the place for you! Built in 1917, the Paradise Inn is open generally from May through September and features a large dining room and gift shop.

The St. Francis Hotel has lived many lives: first as a place of business operated by early settlers Zachary and Jenny Fletcher, then as private residence and restaurant of the Switzer family. The original two-story limestone structure was built in 1881 and was a successful hotel in Nicodemus. The Switzer family bought the building in 1921 and built several additions while they lived there.

Six years after Day's death, his daughter Marion and her husband Louis Warnes began running Dunesmobile rides out of Glen Haven. It started with a 1934 Ford which took four people out to the crest of the dunes and back. It was a thrilling 35-minute ride that took passengers to the crest of the dunes and back for 25 cents each. By the time the rides ended in 1978, there were 13 dunes wagons each carrying 14 passengers on a 12 mile, 35-minute excursion.

Originally known as the Sleeping Bear House, this inn with bright geraniums filling its window boxes welcomed the guests of the little village for nearly one hundred years. D.H. Day himself married the daughter of the innkeeper and lived in the second story for a while. In addition to Day and his family, the inn hosted an eclectic mix of lumberjacks, dock workers, businessmen and posh passengers.

Mrs. Recy Taylor was just 24 years old when she was brutally raped by six white men in Alabama. Upholding the Black woman's tradition of testimony and protest, Taylor actively participated in the pursuit to bring her attackers to justice. Though the men were acquitted in two separate trials, Taylor's courage speaks to the resolve of Black women to channel their pain and anger into political anger. We honor Taylor as an ancestor for teaching us a lesson on courage.

On Thursday, April 18, 2019, nine New York City high school students (one 9th grader; four 11th graders; and four 12th graders) gathered at the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site in New York City to show-off their oratory and presentation skills during the finals of the 2019 Theodore Roosevelt Association Public Speaking Contest.

At the end of the National March for Lesbian and Gay Rights, participants gathered near the base of the Washington Monument to listen to speakers proudly claim their queerness and paint a vision of a more inclusive future. One of these speakers was Charles Law, a Black gay activist based in Houston. He argued that the marchers must not fight for assimilate but integration so that all gay and lesbian people may one day enjoy the full benefits of their civil rights.

This year, Indigenous perspectives of the Lewis and Clark Expedition were reawakened through Our Voices Remain, a Native speaker series organized in part between Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and Partnership for National Trails System (PNTS).

This shuttle stop is right in front of the main entrance to Maswik Lodge. The Lodge building and adjacent guest rooms are contemporary in style. The main lodge building houses a Registration Desk, Gift Shop, and a Food Court. There is also a transportation desk for booking guided tours. Located on Village Loop Road and just east of Bright Angel Lodge, this shuttle stop offers quick access to the canyon rim. Thunderbird and Kachina lodges (guest rooms) and Bright Angel Lodge (including Fred Harvey Burger, Bright Angel Coffee Bar and Fountain).
