The A.M.E. (African Methodist Episcopal) Church formed in Nicodemus in 1879 and met in different buildings until they obtained this building from the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in 1910, which had built it in 1885. The A.M.E. Church worshipped here until around the 1950s when it closed due to a declining congregation. The restored building is open to the public during site business hours.

North Kaibab Trail is the least visited and most difficult of the major inner canyon trails. The trail is challenging for day hikers as well as rim-to-rim hikers. As of October 17, 2024, North Kaibab TRAILHEAD water has been shut off for the winter. Always carry a way to filter or treat creek water, in the event the water stations at Manzanita and Cottonwood Campground are not working.

Built from 1937-1939 as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project with local limestone, the Nicodemus Township Hall has served as a central meeting place for the community for decades. Representing the pillar of self-determination in African American communities, this building hosted everything from voting and township meetings to dances and roller-skating. It currently houses the site's visitor center.

Alphabet housing in Oak Ridge ran the gamut of style, space, and function. From Type A through H Cemesto homes- Cemesto being a mix of cement and asbestos- to Types A, B, C, S, and V Flat-Top designs, Oak Ridge’s architectural style was unique in its simplicity, form, function, and space. Rim Rock Drive is a 23 mile paved road through Colorado National Monument.

This well-maintained dirt trail offering wonderful expansive views. This is a great trail for short day hiking trips into the canyon of half a day or less. During winter months foot traction and hiking poles are advised when trail surfaces are icy. There is no public parking at the South Kaibab Trailhead. Please park at the Visitor Center, then take the Kaibab (Orange) Route shuttle bus to the trailhead. It is a 9-minute ride from the Visitor Center to the Trailhead.

Canyon Rim Trail begins behind Saddlehorn Visitor Center. About a half mile walk along the rim of Wedding Canyon provides scenic views.

Window Rock Trail in Colorado National Monument can be accessed from Canyon Rim Trail, Book Cliffs View, or the trailhead at the far end of the Saddlehorn Campground access road.

Ute Canyon Trail can be accessed from above or below. The upper trailhead is on Rim Rock Drive and begins with a half-mile steep descent on switchbacks down to the canyon bottom. The lower access is from Wildwood Trailhead outside the Monument. Follow Liberty Cap or Corkscrew Trails up to the connection with Ute Canyon.

The lower trailhead for Serpents Trail in Colorado National Monument begins just inside the Grand Junction Entrance near Devils Kitchen Picnic Area. The upper trailhead begins 2.3 miles up Rim Rock Drive from the lower trailhead, just past the tunnel.

Otto's Trail in Colorado National Monument leads to excellent views of Wedding and Monument Canyons, including Independence Monument.

Old Gordon Trail in Colorado National Monument begins at the Devils Kitchen Trailhead, just inside the East (Grand Junction) Entrance. Trail travels uphill on sandstone slabs most of the way.
