![]() NPS Photo The 250th Anniversary of Moores Creek National Battlefield will take place from February 26 to February 28, 2026. If you and your group plan to attend, you must sign up before September 1, 2025. Please submit the name of your group, as well as the lead contact's name and contact information. Additionally, provide an estimate of the number of participants under arms that you will bring. Criteria for Participation All groups wishing to attend must meet one of the following criteria: - Have attended at least one event at Moores Creek National Battlefield within the past year. - Have attended events at other National Park Service (NPS) sites within the past year. For those who have not attended an event at Moores Creek in the last year, you must have participated in events at other NPS sites and provide at least two references from historic weapons supervisors at those parks. These references must be submitted to Jason Howell, Historic Weapons Supervisor at Moores Creek National Battlefield, by October 1, 2025. Additional Requirements You will also need to provide group photos from past events. Once your group has been invited, all units will receive an official invitation by November 26, 2025. Upon receiving the invitation, you will also receive NPS rules for the safe handling of 18th-century small arms, as well as other event information. After receiving the invite, you must fill out a roster for your unit and return it by no later than December 15, 2025. All participants must submit photos of their kits by January 1, 2026. Patriot soldiers should wear attire similar to that of the North Carolina Minute Men. The majority of the soldiers fighting for the Patriots on February 27, 1776, were Minute Men, not militia. The uniform should consist of a “hunting shirt, dark leggings,” and appropriate 18th-century headwear as found in colonial North Carolina during that time. If you are wearing trousers, leggings or gaiters are not necessary. If you do not have a hunting shirt, a frock coat is permissible. Loyalist participants will primarily represent the 3rd Battalion of the 84th Regiment of Foot, who were not uniformed. However, historical documents indicate that many wore clothing in the “Highland manner” or “Highland Habit.” This includes plaid garments such as trews, coats, waistcoats, and appropriate Highland headwear. If kilts are worn, they MUST be appropriate to the period. Disqualifications: Participants may be disqualified if their attire does not meet the standards set by Moores Creek National Battlefield. Additionally, if your unit has been uninvited by other NPS sites or has a reputation for being unsafe or for consistently failing to follow the rules set forth by Moores Creek National Battlefield or other National Park sites, you may face disqualification. The final determination regarding disqualifications will be made by the Moores Creek National Battlefield interpretive staff and our superintendent. Sign up here! |
