Become a Weed Warrior at National Capital Parks — East!

National Capital Parks — East has launched a new volunteer program throughout its portfolio that connects passionate individuals with crucial conservation efforts to conserve the natural resources that make sites within National Capital Parks — East so special.

What is a Weed Warrior?

As a Weed Warrior, you’ll roll up your sleeves to tackle the invasive plants threatening the natural ecosystems in national parks within the portfolio of National Capital Parks — East. Volunteers will remove invasive plants and overall help conserve the natural resources found throughout the parks.

What is an invasive species?

An invasive species is a species not native to a certain area that causes or is likely to cause harm to the environment. Invasive species compete with native species for essential resources like food and space. This often leads to a decline in the populations of native species. Unfortunately, invasive plant species are seen throughout National Capital Parks — East which impacts the health of the parks’ ecosystems and decreases the natural beauty that we cherish.
