Welcome to the Virtual Visitor Center!

New Philadelphia National Historic Site is at 29766 306 Lane in Barry, Illinois. The site is 26 miles east of Hannibal, Missouri, and 77 miles west of Springfield, Illinois.

There is no fee or cost to visit the site.
  • Site grounds are open 24 hours daily.
  • An information kiosk is at the park entrance. Stop here for brochures, outdoor exhibits, and public Wi Fi.
  • You may explore the grounds. This includes the 1/4-mile augmented reality trail, gravel street, and grounds around the Burdick House.
  • Paved parking is available at the information kiosk. There is no parking or turnarounds for RVs, busses, or trailers.
Note: Paved parking is available at the information kiosk. There is no threshold or ground level change from the parking area to the kiosk.

Know Before You Go!

New Philadelphia is a new unit of the National Park Service. Many services are not yet available. Before you visit, be aware of the following:
  • Restrooms and water fountains are not available.
  • There are no trash cans on site. Please take your trash with you.
  • There are no indoor facilities, including a visitor center or gift shop. Pay attention to the weather. Seek shelter in case of lightning or tornados. Find a weather forecast on the current conditions page.
  • The site does not currently offer Junior Ranger or ranger-led programs.
  • Do not enter any buildings.
  • Private property surrounds the site. Be mindful of fences or signage to remain in public areas.
  • Park rangers may not be available. If there is an emergency, call 911.
  • Collecting is prohibited. The site protects a sensitive archeological area. Please help protect these treasures. Collecting artifacts, digging, and metal detecting are prohibited.
