South Point Day Use Area

Petroglyph Trail

Trail Length: 2 miles round-trip on an unpaved trail. See up to 100 petroglyphs.

Degree of difficulty: easy to moderate


South Point Loop Trail

Trail Length: 4.48 miles round trip on an unpaved trail. Includes the petroglyph portion of the trail. Great views of the surrounding area.

Degree of difficulty: Strenuous

South Point to Volcanoes Trail

Trail Length: 2.68 miles one way on an umpaved trail. This trail links up with the Volcanoes Day Use Area. No petroglyphs to be seen here.

Open daily 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Leashed pets allowed. Owners must pick up after their pets.

Directions to the South Point Day Use Area from the Visitor Information Center:

From the Visitor Information Center, exit the main parking lot and take a right turn on Unser Blvd., heading south.

Taken Unser Blvd. to Tierra Pintada Blvd. Take a right on Tierra Pintada, heading west.

Drive on Tierra Pintada Blvd. Until you get to Mirehaven Parkway.

The entrance gates to the Southpoint Day Use Aea Trailhead will be immediately on your left.

Follow the entrance road past the large sign and into the parking lot. There are no parking or entrance fees.
