Covered Bridge - Stop #1 on the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive

Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits, Scenic View/Photo Spot
Have you ever seen a covered bridge with the National Park Service arrowhead on it?
The covered bridge was a feature on Pierce Stocking's original Scenic Drive. Historically, these were constructed to protect wooden bridges from rain and snow, which can cause rotting of the timbers. It would have been cheaper to repair the roof than to build a new bridge.
Porcupines chewed up the sides of the original covered bridge, even with plenty of native wood nearby. The covered structure was replaced in 1986. The present bridge has a higher roof to provide a 13-foot, 6-inch vehicle clearance.
This pull-off allows you an opportunity to linger a moment to view the bridge or photograph it.
