Trail Descriptions:
The steep climb to Acadia Mountain's 681-foot summit rewards hikers with stunning views of Somes Sound, Norumbega Mountain, and Sargent Drive. Hikers that descend the eastern flank of the mountain can complete a 2.5-mile (4 km) loop back to this point via the Man O' War Brook Trail.
Acadia Mountain Trail
From the trailhead, the trail climbs steeply through the forest before reaching the open, rocky summit. On the ascent, hikers will encounter numerous stone staircases built into mossy ledges and catch occasional glimpses of Echo Lake and Beech Mountain fire tower. The trail descends steeply over ledges, some requiring scrambling. At the eastern end, the Man O' War Brook Trail offers a gentler return to the trailhead.
Man O' War Brook Trail
Continuing east from the Acadia Mountain Trailhead, this wide gravel trail passes through a forested landscape featuring sections dominated by large hemlocks and white pines. The trail's typically flat grade is punctuated by roots and dips. The final section descends a partially eroded slope then narrows before reaching a trail junction where hikers can continue on to Acadia and Saint Sauveur Mountains.
