Nestled in the heart of St. Michael’s, MD, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum stands as a beacon of the region’s rich maritime heritage and ecological significance. Spanning 18 acres along the picturesque Miles River, CBMM invites visitors to explore the history, culture, and environmental stewardship of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum shares stories of the Bay and its people across time through historic structures, purpose-built exhibition buildings, a floating fleet of traditional vessels, and a working Shipyard. Guests are invited to climb the 1879 Hooper Strait Lighthouse, board a skipjack, try their hand at tonging for oysters at Waterman’s Wharf, and experience the sights and smells of shipwrights at work using time-honored wooden boat building techniques.

Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is proud to be part of the NPS Chesapeake Gateways network, connecting to initiatives like the Captain John Smith Historic Water Trail and the Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. Each visit not only enriches your understanding of the Chesapeake’s maritime legacy but also supports ongoing conservation efforts.

The Chesapeake story comes to life at Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum through hands-on learning, world-class exhibitions, and on-the-water experiences. To learn more, visit https://cbmm.org/
