Visitor Contact Station Kaloko Honokohau

Quick Facts

Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

The landscape between the two waysides is filled with dark volcanic rock and low green and tan vegetation. A smooth, concrete sidewalk runs between the visitor contact station and the parking lot, on a slight hill. In the distance, near the Mamalahoa trail as it runs north from the parking lot, there is a nine-foot tall, flat, metal sculpture, in silhouette, of a Hawaiian man wearing a traditional loincloth. Using both hands, he holds a long stick across his shoulders. Woven bags, used to carry goods and other items, are balanced at both ends.

Depending on where you’re located, at the trail head or at the visitor station, select the wayside nearest you to hear additional description of the area and the panel text read aloud. End of description.
