Description
Shiloh is excited to announce a new ranger-led hike!
join Ranger Timothy Arnold for “A General’s Last March,” hike exploring the final hours of Union General W.H.L. Wallace on April 6, 1862. Participants will follow in the footsteps of the Illinois native—lawyer, Mexican War veteran, and rising star in the U.S. Army—who was mortally wounded during the Battle of Shiloh.
Along the way, visitors will learn about Wallace’s leadership, military service, and personal life, including his wife Ann Dickey Wallace, who unknowingly waited aboard a boat at Pittsburg Landing during the fighting.
The hike runs from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The 4-mile hike over even terrain is considered moderately difficult. Participants should bring insect repellent, sunscreen, one liter of water, and wear sturdy footwear. Pre-registration is required—please call the park visitor center at 731-689-5696 to sign up.
