Booming for Independence

In celebration of the Independence Day weekend, Shiloh National Military Park is thrilled to present “Booming for Independence,” featuring the Shiloh Cannon Crew. Visitors will experience authentic Civil War artillery firing demonstrations with a 6-pounder Field Piece on July 4th weekend.

Join us for two days of living history as living historians in period uniforms demonstrate and explain the procedures, tools, and ordnance used by both Union and Confederate cannoneers during the Civil War.

Demonstration Schedule:

Saturday, July 5th:

10:00 a.m.
11:30 a.m.
1:30 p.m.
3:00 p.m.

Sunday, July 6th:

11:00 a.m.
1:00 p.m.
2:30 p.m.                        

Each 20-minute program will feature two cannon firings, providing an exhilarating glimpse into Civil War artillery practices. After each demonstration, guests are invited to get an up-close look at the cannon and its implements, as well as engage with our knowledgeable living historians.
