Reconstruction Era National Historical Park was first designated by a Presidential Proclamation on January 12, 2017 as Reconstruction Era National Monument. The park was redesignated as National Historical Park on March 12, 2019 by the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act. The 2019 Act also established the Reconstruction Era National Historic Network which is managed by the park.
