Superintendent Vaughn Baker invites volunteers of all ages who want to revitalize one of America’s National Parks to participate in the National Parks America Tour volunteer event on Saturday, September 23 from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. It is the second of such events hosted by Rocky Mountain National Park. Registration and breakfast will occur at 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Volunteer projects will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at approximately 1:00 p.m. A free picnic lunch will follow. In cooperation with Unilever, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., the National Park Foundation, and Take Pride in America, the National Parks America Tour will engage several organizations in the community, including but not limited to: Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, high school or college students, Wal-Mart Associates and families in various park projects. Volunteers will receive free a t-shirt and breakfast compliments of program sponsors: Unilever and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. The National Parks America Tour will salute America’s Best—its volunteers—at the Great American Picnic after the work activities. The National Parks America Tour is a volunteer-driven initiative designed to provide National Parks with resources to complete important projects and engage communities in the National Park experience and is projected to donate more than 100,000 volunteer manpower hours to the National Park Service. Volunteers wanting to participate should meet at the Stanley Park (large) picnic shelter. Parking is available adjacent to the shelter as well as at the nearby Estes Park High School parking lot. The school address is: 1600 Manford Avenue. Volunteers should wear comfortable work clothes, sturdy footwear, and bring water and appropriate clothing for the weather. All necessary tools, equipment and supplies will be provided. For more information, interested groups and individuals should call Christopher Derman at 970-586-1330.
