Lyceum Series Continues in April

It Happened in Rocky Mountain National Park
Many events have occurred in Rocky Mountain National Park from which lessons were learned for the future. Thirty of these adventures have been captured in author Phyllis Perry’s new book, It Happened in Rocky Mountain National Park. A selection of those events will be discussed in this evening’s presentation. Among the events included are the First Recorded Ascent of Longs Peak, The Mountain Man and the English Lady, Lamb’s Slide, A City Called Lulu, Digging the Grand Ditch, Agnes Vaille’s Tragic Attempt on Longs Peak, Building Trail Ridge Road, Rescue on Hallett Peak, Race for the Diamond, The Elusive Greenback Cutthroat Trout, The Ouzel Lake Wildfire, the Lawn Lake Flood and more.

The park’s 2008 Lyceum theme is “Learning Lessons: Management Decisions of the Past and Future.” As Rocky Mountain National Park's centennial approaches, it is a good time to explore decisions made in the past, face the issues of today, and look forward to the future. How do real people make real decisions about real problems in the entire Rocky Mountain Region, as well as in Rocky Mountain National Park.

The Lyceum schedule runs through May 17, 2008. Financial support for the lyceum series is provided by the park’s nonprofit partner, the Rocky Mountain Nature Association. Programs are held at the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center and are free and open to the public.
