To celebrate National Volunteer Week, Rocky Mountain National Park is hosting an all-invited volunteer project on Thursday morning, May 1. Anyone interested in celebrating the rewards of volunteering is invited and encouraged to participate. When the Lawn Lake dam breached, over 25 years ago, the wetlands at the confluence of the Roaring and Fall Rivers were heavily damaged. Park staff have coordinated several phases of its restoration and volunteers have been instrumental in every aspect. As part of the next phase of restoration, volunteers are again needed, from issuing equipment to getting down and dirty planting vegetation; there will be something for everyone. The project will begin at 8:30 a.m., May 1, with a safety message outside the Rocky Mountain National Park greenhouse. Once equipment is issued, volunteers will travel to the Alluvial Fan area; carpooling will be encouraged. Park staff will be present for training, instructions and general support. All volunteers are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch and picnic at the Horseshoe Park Picnic Area following the project. Park staff will provide drinks and dessert.
