A truly American and democratic idea, National Parks were called “our best idea” by Pulitzer Prize winning author Wallace Stegner. Saturday evenings in September, Rocky Mountain National Park will celebrate our National Parks. All programs are held at the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center at 7:30 p.m. and are free.
Saturday, September 5 - Our National Parks: America the Beautiful
National Parks have come to symbolize America’s pride in her unique landscapes, complex history, and cultural diversity. But what were the factors that compelled this fledgling country to set aside the world’s first national park? Explore the democratic ideals, artistic impulses, literary expressions, and adventurous explorations that culminated in a truly “America the Beautiful.”
Saturday, September 12 – Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone is where it all began. Come explore the richness of scenery, geology, wildlife, and history found in our first national park. The evening will also include a sneak peak of the upcoming PBS film series The National Parks: America’s Best Idea.
Saturday, September 19 – Untold Stories of the National Parks
The National Parks preserve many unique places. Discover some of the lesser known stories from our National Parks, from unexpected patrollers of early Yosemite National Park, to ways in which city kids are being introduced to our National Parks today.
Saturday, September 26 – Highlights from The National Parks: America’s Best Idea
Ken Burns’ newest documentary, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea, premieres on PBS Sunday, September 27. See a preview of this 12-hour, 6-part film series, which explores the history of the National Parks and celebrates the stories of the countless people who helped create and preserve them for future generations.
