Why Abstract? Hilare Hiler and the Aquatic Park Bathhouse

Hilaire Hiler, artistic director for the Aquatic Park Bathhouse, wrote passionately about mural-making, color theory, and abstraction. The following audio clips feature excerpts from his book Why Abstract? (1962). The book is part of the exhibit A Cosmos of Color, which interprets Hiler’s work at the Aquatic Park Bathhouse, now the San Francisco Maritime Museum.
