Pets

Pets are welcome in the park but please visit responsibly.

Dogs are permitted on park grounds, but must be kept on a leash at all time. This includes when hiking the nature trails. We ask that dog owners be respectful of the park and remove dog waste. Bags for that purpose are located in a dispenser near the kiosk in the main parking lot

Pets are not permitted in any park building except for trained service animals. This includes the Atrium where the Reflecting Pool is located.

While much of the main parking lot remains shaded throughout the day, the inside of the vehicle may still become very hot. Please take care when leaving your pet in the car for lengthy periods.

Service Animals

Service animals are allowed in all park facilities and trails. National Park Service policy defines a service animal as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. The tasks performed by the animal must be directly related to the person’s disability. Emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals are not considered service animals.

BARK Rangers

Do you like exploring the park with your canine friend? If so, help them become a Bark Ranger!

All Bark Rangers and their human friends should learn and follow the Rules of B.A.R.K:

B = Bag their poop
Help keep the park clean by collecting and disposing of all dog waste. Be sure to carry the poop bag off the trail. Do not throw them into the woods or hang from trees. Public garbage cans are located throughout the park.
A = Always use a leash
Pets must be restrained on a leash no longer than 6 feet (2 m); retractable leashes extended beyond this limit are prohibited. Leashes protect dogs from becoming lost and from wilderness hazards such as porcupines. Not everyone is a dog person no matter how friendly and well behaved your dog may be. Dog friendly areas are a privilege would could be lost if leash regulations are not followed.
R = Respect wildlife
Dogs can chase and threaten wildlife, scaring birds and other animals away from nesting, feeding, and resting sites. Please keep your dog at a respectful distance from any animals you may encounter.
K = Know where to go
Pets should not be left unattended in a vehicle or anywhere in the park. Dogs are welcome on park grounds, but only service animals are allowed inside park buildings.

Dogs who follow the Rules of B.A.R.K. can complete two of the following tasks to become a Bark Ranger and recieve recognition at the visitor center:

• Hike on a park trail
• Visit the four outdoor monuments
• Take a photo with Standing Lincoln
