New Mexico features a wide variety of trees and plants that have adapted to its arid climate. Some of the most common tree species include Pinon Pine, Cottonwood, Desert Willow, and Juniper. For shrubs, you can find Apache Plume, Cholla Cactus, Sagebrush, and Butterfly Bush. These native plants thrive in the local environment, making them resilient to drought and high temperatures.

The desert climate also nurtures colorful native species such as juniper trees, cacti, artichoke agave, Indian blankets, switchgrass, edible golden currant, Indiangrass, and yarrow. Native shrubs are well-suited to endure the intense summer heat and limited rainfall typical of the Southwest. Incorporating native plants into landscape designs in New Mexico offers benefits like adaptability, resistance to pests and diseases, increased biodiversity, reduced need for pesticides and fertilizers, and lower maintenance requirements.
