2025 Train Operations
The Steamtown rail experience varies from short 30-minute trips exploring the park's historic railroad yard with a narrated park ranger interpretive program to full-day trips through the Poconos and Lackawanna Valley.
Short Train Rides (May 3 - November 9, 2025)
The "Scranton Limited" yard shuttle will be offered on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays with departure times at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:15 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. (subject to cancellation or change due to mechanical issues, weather, or crew and equipment availability).
Tickets are $6.00 per person ages 6 and older; $1.00 per person ages 0-5. Tickets may be purchased on-site at the Information Kiosk, the day of your visit. Tickets are valid for the entire day of purchase. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis; passengers should arrive 15 to 20 minutes before departure to secure a seat.
Excursions Beyond Steamtown NHS
Advance tickets for NPS excursions will be released on recreation.gov on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 (tickets for the 9/4 evening excursion to Carbondale released on Thursday 8/21). Tickets for Iron Horse Society excursions are available now at their excursion page.

As with the short train rides, excursions are also subject to cancellation or change due to mechanical issues, weather, or crew and equipment availability.
Purchasing Tickets and Ticket Availability
Short Train Ride Tickets:
Tickets for short train rides, including the "Scranton Limited" yard shuttles are available for same-day purchase on-site at the Information Kiosk (credit or debit only). Some tickets for short train rides are offered in advance through Recreation. gov. Tickets may also be purchased on-site at the Information Kiosk the day of your visit. All ticket sales are by credit card only.
Pricing:
Ages 6 and older: $6.00 per person
Ages 0–5: $1.00 per person

Excursion Tickets:
Tickets for our NPS Fall Excursions will be available for purchase in advance online through recreation.gov. Additionally, excursion tickets may be purchased on-site at the Information Kiosk. All ticket sales will be credit card only.
Some excursions are offered through Steamtown's philanthropic partner the Iron Horse Society. The Iron Horse Society also operates the popular North Pole Limited Holiday train ride programs in December. Ticketing for Iron Horse excursions and programs is available at www.theironhorsesociety.org/excursions.

Pricing Ranges
Adult (ages 12-61): $25.00-$55.00;
Senior (ages 62+): $23.00-$50.00;
Youth (ages 3-11): $18.00-$33.00;
Child (ages 0-2): $1.00.
