Established in 1989, The Friends of Stones River National Battlefield, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit corporation serving as both an advocacy and advisory group and philanthropic partner of the National Park Service. African American Heritage Society of Rutherford County



The vision of the African American Heritage Society of Rutherford County is to help all residents value the history of African Americans in our community. They have partnered with Stones River National Battlefield to learn more about the Cemetery Community, a Freedmen's community that emerged on the battlefield landscape following the Civil War, and to share that knowledge with the public through special programs.

Tennessee Civil War Heritage Area

The Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area tells the whole story of America's greatest challenge, 1860-1875: the powerful stories of vicious warfare, the demands of the homefront and occupation, the freedom of emancipation, and the enduring legacies of Reconstruction. They provide leadership and support to organizations across Tennessee, creating opportunities for education, interpretation, preservation, and economic development and often partner with Stones River National Battlefield in support of these projects.

Eastern National

The America’s National Parks™ Store at the Stones River National Battlefield visitor center is operated by the parks' cooperating association, Eastern National. Eastern National work with more than 3,000 vendors to supply stores with educational products that enhance visitor experiences, and develop custom merchandise specific to Stones River National Battlefield.

Eastern National is a 501(c)3 non-profit cooperating association, supporting the interpretive, educational, and scientific programs and services at national parks and public lands accross the United States.

City of Murfreesboro Parks & Recreation Department

With 1200 acres of parks, facilities, greenway and open spaces, some bordering Stones River National Battlefield, the award-winning Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department provides opportunities for many safe recreational activities.

Included among the parks is the Murfreesboro Greenway System which consists of over 17 miles of trails, bridges, and boardwalks for enjoying Murfreesboro's beautiful natural setting, connecting the units of Stones River National Battlefield. Stones River National Battlefield partners with Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation on stewarship projects and volunteer events.
