Stones River National Battlefield is looking for a teacher to highlight the wild side of Civil War battlefield by preparing STEAM lesson plans and activities that focus on the native flora and fauna protected by the park. The 240-hour internship runs from June 10 to August 2, 2024, and will also include experiences in park operations and a self-paced graduate course. The Teacher-Ranger-Teacher (TRT) intern will receive a $3,000 stipend distributed following completion of the program. The TRT intern will assist in creating a STEAM experience that challenges students to apply technology such as game cameras, GIS technology and applications like iNaturalist to perform citizen science and assist us in monitoring the park’s plants and animals. Some possible projects include using game cameras to track seasonal changes in vegetation and animal behavior, combining vehicle accident reports with game camera data to determine areas where additional efforts are needed to enhance wildlife safety or developing a citizen science project to enhance plant and animal inventories.
