    When the Library of Congress updated their cataloging system in the late 1990s, they digitized cards that contained information in addition to cataloging data. Some of these cards, from the HABS/HAER/HALS collection, were illustrated with miniature architectural sketches or included important historical information.     The HABS/HAER/HALS Collection at the Library of Congress includes over 66,000 measured drawings. Of those, 20 use watercolors as a medium, a striking use of color in the collection’s drawing sheets. Many of these watercolors date back to the 1930s.     Historic American Landscape and Garden Project

    Learn about the Historic American Landscape and Garden Project (1935-40). The project was carried out under the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) in 1935-40. Sixty years after the project ended, the Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS) was established.
