Meeting the Minimum Requirements

Maximum Entry Age (MEA)
Applicants must have reached their 21st birthday but not have reached their 40th birthday by the date of appointment to this position. These positions are covered by the special retirement provisions for Federal Law Enforcement officers and have a mandatory retirement age of 60. Applicants for these positions who are over 40 must have been or currently be covered by the special retirement provisions and be able to complete at least 20 years of covered service by age 60. You must submit proof of your status in the Law Enforcement retirement system. The MEA does not apply to Veterans.

Veteran's Preference

- Will I need a background check?
Yes. All applicants undergo a suitability review. Additionally, a preliminary security waiver is required before appointment, which includes a background investigation with favorable adjudication. - Can misdemeanor convictions disqualify me?
Yes. Multiple misdemeanor convictions may result in disqualification. - What level of security clearance is required?
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. - If I already have a Top Secret clearance, will it be maintained?
In most cases, yes; however, the agency will not renew a clearance above the Secret level. - Is drug testing part of the hiring process?
Yes. You must pass a drug test and receive a negative result before appointment. - Is a medical exam required?
