Take a Short Hike to Buena Vista Peak

The Buena Vista Peak Trail is a great option for people who want a short hike to a spectacular vista. This hike is only one mile (two miles round trip) and has an elevation gain of 400 feet. The trail leads you through a mixed conifer forest and wildflowers, winding past giant granite boulders. Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Redwood Canyon, Sierra Crest summits, and Kings Canyon high country.
When you're finished taking in the view, turn around and return the same way you came.
Qualified ADA-defined service dogs are allowed on trails in national parks. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA. For more information about ADA service animal requirements, please go to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) website.
You can drive to this trail from two different directions. From the north, take Highway 180 east to the Generals Highway turn-off, and then take the Generals Highway 5 miles to the Buena Vista trailhead. From the south, take Highway 198 east to Foothills, and then take the Generals Highway 40 miles to the Buena Vista trailhead.
The Buena Vista trailhead is located across the highway from the Kings Canyon Overlook. There is parking at the trailhead.
