Picnic at the Oxbow
NPS / Gin Majka
The Oxbow picnic area is located at the northern section of the monument, along the East Branch of the Penobscot River. Enter through the North Gate and follow New River Road to Oxbow Road. During the spring and summer, visitors can drive to the picnic area to enjoy the beautiful landscape. During the winter, visitors will have to plan to travel by foot only (vehicles must park at the North Gate).There are no trash cans on-site. Help preserve the beauty of the landscape by making sure to pack out what you packed in.

Depending on the time of visit, visitors may expect company with mosquitoes, black flies, and deer flies. Prepare accordingly! Stay informed of areas that are opened and closed by checking on current conditions.

The picnic area has a picnic table and a vault toilet. The surface of the ground is uneven, made of grass, dirt, and gravel.
